LeBronatry...

I'm sure many of you know by now that LeBron "King" James has decided to join Wade and Bosh in Miami. The following behind this news has been crazy. It really showed me how quick people change when their idols fail them. Today's blog will take a look at idolatry in our culture and the one and only hope that we have.

    WOW...wow...wow. I heard about what the Owner said, but didn't realize it was too this level. It's wrong on soooooo many levels. "never will betray you", go to heaven but think they shouldn't have to die to get there, chosen one, opposite of what we want our children to become....REALLY?

    Not only is has he made James an idol, he's making himself sound like a sucka. The terms he is using in the letter really makes him sound like he worshiped James and the court he walked on. You wanted him on the team and because he chose otherwise you go in on him? As a business man, who would want to do business with him with that type of attitude. It's crazy how all this attention is placed on one man when it's a team sport.

    I can't front....this really makes me check myself. Especially when it comes to things I say I love. Kind of remind me of the song "Love is gonna get you" (KrsOne). Long story short, it talks about how loving certain things can lead to death or bad consequences. Love can turn to idolizing before we know it. Next thing you know we are talking and looking foolish like the Owner of the Cavs...totally neglecting God. Good one Pastor!!!!

    Jerome, this is Jared Hanley from facebook. I haven't read this particular book by Keller but I did read "The Reason For God: Belief in an Age of Scepticism" about two and a half years ago. And, I've listened to Tim Keller on numerous occasions. I think what he has to say about idolatry is on point. Religion and irreligion essentally idolize self in one form or another. The gospel is the way around that. I would like to get a copy of this book eventually and read it. Thanks for reminding me.
